Rockette Memories
Sandi Bloomberg

Author of THE MAGIC GARDEN, and THE MAGIC COOKIES, interactive children's books, available at her website: www.sandibloomberg.com

I'm proud to have been a Rockette,
precision dancer, world renowned,
I'm thrilled to be part of the Alumnae,
with the alley-mates I have found,
to share the memories of days gone by,
when we danced on the line with kicks eye-high
We laughed, we cried, helped one another
became 36 sisters, with Duffy, our mother.
Russell, our father, loved his dancing daughters
and often guided us through some troubled waters.
He was our mentor, our teacher, our friend, our "dad"
was the best choreographer a dancer ever had.
Our years at the Hall were so very unique,
so special, so memorable, that no critique
could ever describe it. You had to be there,
with the glitz and the glitter on your face and hair,
"the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd"
Again, being part of it has made me so proud!

"We all believe the reason why we feel this special pride
Is the friendship we’ve preserved by still working side by side"

Rockette Alumnae Dancers in action.

Dear Rockette Alumnae,
In serving on the board of the alumnae and in talking to so many of you during these years, I have given much thought about our association and how we can grow and make a difference and utilize all of the talent and energy that I know my sister Rockettes possess. I have heard the same overriding theme from so many members. Large numbers of you felt disconnected because of not being able to attend meetings and sometimes not being able to make the big events, mostly because of location and expense. You feel that you have no direct contact with the officers and the board and therefore no real input.
We have come up with an idea that we think will involve each of our members directly. By creating designated regional areas of the country, headed by one person, a LINE CAPTAIN. we can define and address the issues of each member. Each member could stay close in touch with her line captain and let her know all wishes and desires. She in turn would send this information back to me or a designated member of the board and we could consider your ideas and put them into action. Our meetings are a great place to do this.
If you are interested in becoming a line captain, please just let me know. You will need to be good with the computer so that you can e-mail and have time to spend on the phone and of course you must be available.
I have put together a list of people that I know would be good at this job and who have voiced their interest in becoming LINE CAPTAINS. They are as follows:
Sharlene Kessler Pennsylvania
Betty Dammert Kentucky
Harriet Mueller Georgia
Andrea Bekkenhuis Florida
Carla Drumm Webber Oregon
Carolyn Dutra Rhode Island
Joy Gibbons South Carolina
Sue Bono Texas
You can let me know your thoughts by phoning me at 201.871.0130 or e-mail:
summerkicks@aol.com
We would like to have every alumnae have a voice in this organization and a greater opportunity to attend meetings, lunches, and galas. I know this is how we can make this happen.
In short: We all need to revisit and celebrate those precious years of our Rockette lives and relationships. Let's do it!!!!!
With love and eye hi' kicks, Patty DeCarlo Grantham

Lorraine Sarek (59-61) and husband, Larry, are owned by three (3) Chessies. Petey (Intrepid’s Pummel The Panther), Fannie (Flatlands Fannie Brice) and Wally (Atlas Goes to War). Larry, being an ex-Navy Pilot (flew off of air-craft carriers) named Wally and Petey after the ship's special call signals; as for Lorraine, being an ex-dancer, she couldn’t resist Fannie.

Lorraine and Larry live in Bear River Minnesota – which is 17 miles South and a little West of Cook, MN. They are active in the Minnesota Iron Range Retriever Club (located in Virginia, MN) in the summer, and the Memphis Amateur Retriever Club (Hernando, MS) in the winter.
